Research Trends Timeline
Evidence of library instruction and research may be found as far back as the 1820s. The 1920s and 1930s further examined the acceptance and effectiveness of library instruction. The 1950s was a popular time period for teaching library instruction due to increased enrollment in college education. However, the progression of ideas for library instruction was slow during this period. Meanwhile, research in the 1960s brought an era that examined the use of electronic aids and multimedia to promote library instruction. The 1970s and 1980s allowed for intensive research to promote library instruction due to advances and a surge in information technology. Thus, the modern era of the 1990s and 2000s continue to examine the effects of technology growth and its effects on library instruction. Examining the history of research trends presents the opportunity to examine the pedagogical methods of delivering library instruction to users of information services.
